Three generations on the land
“The road is made by walking.”

Sul Composto grew out of what Carlos Gracias learned from his father and grandfather, in the fields of Montinhos. A horticultural engineer, he brought that expertise to a family vineyard, and from there to wine.

Frequently asked
questions

The most common questions about our wines and where to find them.

Which wines do you make?

We make four wines, all Vinho Regional Algarve, in 75 cl bottles: Al-Mudd Pét-Nat 2024 (rosé, ancestral method), Al-Mudd Sauvignon Blanc 2025 (Burgau), Terraços de Monchique Riesling 2024 and Terraços da Fóia Altitude Tinta Roriz 2021 (2nd edition).

Where can I buy Al-Mudd and Terraços da Fóia wines?

Online, at Garrafeira Nacional and Garrafeira Avô Têtê. Restaurants and wine shops can contact us at geral@sulcomposto.pt.

What is a Pét-Nat?

It is a sparkling wine made by the ancestral method: a single fermentation, finished in the bottle, without filtration. Our Al-Mudd Pét-Nat is a brut nature rosé made from Tinta Roriz, 75 cl.

Are there high-altitude wines in the Algarve?

Yes. Terraços da Fóia is in the Monchique mountains, on north-facing terraces, at altitudes up to 695 metres, on syenite soils. The Al-Mudd Pét-Nat, the Terraços de Monchique Riesling and the Terraços da Fóia Altitude Tinta Roriz come from there. Only the Sauvignon Blanc comes from Burgau.

Where are the vineyards?

In Burgau, by the sea, on the Montinhos property (the Burgau Family Estate), where the Sauvignon Blanc comes from. All the other wines come from the Quinta de São Francisco, in the Monchique mountains, at 695 metres altitude.

What is a Vinho Regional Algarve?

It is the geographical indication for the wines of the Algarve: a certification of origin and quality, awarded by the Algarve Wine Commission to wines made from grapes grown in the region. It guarantees consumers where the wine comes from and a controlled product, and it values the Algarve. It allows more freedom of grape varieties and style than the Algarve’s designations of origin (Lagos, Portimão, Lagoa and Tavira). All our wines are Vinho Regional Algarve.

Can I visit the winery or do a tasting?

Yes, by appointment. We offer the Monchique Wine Experience, with Eviva Wine School. Prices, times and bookings are on the Eviva Wine School page.
