The road is made by walking.
Sul Composto is a family wine producer in the Algarve, with vineyards in Burgau, by the sea, and in the Monchique mountains, at 695 metres altitude.

Our story
The past and the lived experience of our family left their mark on the generations that followed. That is what happened with a generation of descendants who are now venturing into the ins and outs of agriculture.
Guided by my father and my grandfather, João Vasco Gracias, I developed an early interest and passion for the countryside and took my first steps on the land, walking the vegetable gardens and wheat fields of Montinhos, Monte Alto and even Pinheiral.
Inspired by authors such as Giovannino Guareschi, George Orwell and John Steinbeck, I consolidated my love of nature and agriculture, and completed a degree in Horticultural Engineering at the University of the Algarve. That was a second step towards acquiring the theoretical and practical tools of the agricultural world, its experiences and its demands.
The following steps allowed me to connect theory with a complex and challenging practice: technical assistance, first in the Algarve Irrigation Project, then in associations, at the CAP Rural Information Centre of the Algarve, and more recently at the Algarve Wine Commission.
My steps rest on the motto that “the road is made by walking”.

Our brands

Brings together the Sauvignon Blanc from the Burgau Family Estate and the Pét-Nat, made by the ancestral method, from the Monchique mountains.
From the Monchique mountains: the Terraços de Monchique Riesling and the Tinta Roriz.
We welcome visits by appointment: the Monchique Wine Experience, with a vineyard visit and a tasting of high-altitude wines, in partnership with Eviva Wine School.
It was this experience of entrepreneurship, of projecting the values of the region and of defending a local culture that underlay the intentions and the family projects, of which I now intend to be a loyal representative, continuing to walk, always respecting others, just as they awakened and taught me.
“The road is made by walking.”

On our “Montinhos” property, the Burgau Family Estate, by the sea, is the vineyard of the Al-Mudd Sauvignon Blanc, a tribute to the village of which we have so many memories.
